Work
is to weave the cloth with threads drawn
from your heart, and to charge all things
with the breath of your own spirit."

Andreya
von Waldenfels-Marks, director of ANDREYA
MARKS DESIGNS, grew up as a baroness in
the post World War II era in Western Germany,
where her father was head of family owned
spinning and weaving mills. Following
the tradition of her family, she travelled
Europe and the Orient learning about ethnic
cloth and their applied structures and
methods of weaving.
She learned
to weave in Mendocino, California in
1977, and took to it with a passion
that has not stopped since, improving
her designs and techniques in the years
that have followed. she weaves on 16
harness AVL dobby looms, the Mercedes
of looms, hand crafted in Northern
California.
Chenille,
which brings a mixture of European elegance
and modern design to a weave, has become
her favorite fabric. Yet, she does not
shy away from cashmere to bring luxury
into her fabulous blankets.
Andreya
lives at the moment in Santa Barbara
where she devotes herself to teaching
yoga to private individuals in need
of encouragement and meaning of life.
